1930s silk bias cut dress in a beautiful 'cottage' style floral print, perfect for spring and summer. It features a rounded neckline with a front floral applique for an added feminine touch. The dress has a straight cut torso with inverted waistband panels which transition into a flared, bias cut skirt from the hip down. With additional diamond darts front and back that create a wonderful sense of movement. Though unlined, the silk is of exceptional quality and is not at all transparent - it has a delicate, illustrative pattern of springtime flowers in shades of orange, pink, lilac, baby blue and pastel green. The scooped back features a keyhole cutout with a sash tie.
For a dress of this age, this piece is in incredible vintage condition and is delicate but very wearable. We have fused the underarms to reinforce the fabric which has thinned with age. There is also a very small, neat, darned area in green cotton right on the underarm seam which we have left as it is a good mend and cannot be seen unless inspecting the dress very carefully. Although the dress has no label, the quality of the craftsmanship is evident and most likely handmade by a skilled seamstress. The construction and use of pinking shears for the seams suggest this is an early American piece. Due to its loose, bias-cut shape and lack of fastening, this dress can be slipped on over the head to suit a range of sizes between a UK 10 to small 14, or 6 to 10 US.
